When he’s done playing in the snow, Wilson knows just what to do:
It’s going on noon, and this is the full extent of Wilson’s activity so far on this leaf-soaking drizzle of a day: snuggling into the chair in my office to snore in peaceful slumber. Oh to be a dog today. (In actuality, he does this every day. But today I do so want to join [...]
A belated welcome to the two new members of the Lynn & Allen Long family: French bulldogs Dewey and Lilly. Dewey is the pup on the left. Madame Lilly, on the right, is four years old.
Our English bulldog Wilson is quite taken with his cousins. Lucy, as one might guess, despises the French as much [...]
For the last five days, Spring has sprung in full force here in Pittsburgh, coaxed by unseasonably warm days in the high 80s. The rolling-hill view out my office window has popped with purple, white and red set against nearly neon-green grass, blue skies and sunshine. I feel like I’m living on the set of [...]
On New Year’s Eve the world lost Sophie, a funny French bulldog full of grunts and farts who drew attention and affection from everyone she met. She lived 11 years, the last 8 of which with Lynn & Allen Long in a loving home that was the envy of many a canine. Though her favorite [...]
Let’s start with a morning phone conversation between Brian (at home) and me (in Detroit):
Brian: I think Wilson might have gotten sprayed by a skunk last night. At 2 a.m. I realized he wasn’t in the bedroom and when I called him in from the dog-yard he was soaking wet and reeking. But I’m not [...]
Remember on the “I Love Lucy” TV show, how Ricky would scold Lucy when she messed up? Well, our bulldog Lucy really messed up the other night. She nipped our 10-year-old guest, Gracie. I say “nipped” because I can’t bring myself to say “bit.” In the face, no less. In one lunge she got her [...]
As I write this I’m wondering about the fate of Elvis, our neighbor’s dog. The lab-hound mix is a large black tornado, lovable once he settles down from whipping you with his tail or greeting you face-to-face (i.e., front paws on your shoulders). Lately, though, the one-year-old has become a bit aggressive. When a dog [...]
Just when you thought it was safe, comes a harrowing sequel to my post about birds…
This Saturday my husband and I leave for 10 days in Europe. Part business, mostly pleasure, we’ll be in Paris for a few days and then London for almost a week. We’re staying at great hotels recommended by avid travelers, and have friends in London who are going to show us around. I’ll be strolling the foggy streets of London town, finally putting to perfect use my Burberry raincoat. It sounds wonderful, right? So why don’t I want to go?
