Today is November 1st, the shotgun start to NaNoWriMo, and I’m proud to say that as of this post (at 4 p.m.) I have completed my first 1,700 words of the required 50-word manuscript. After first considering participating last week, by Tuesday my wishy-washiness was on the “wash” side. No way was this going to happen, since I hadn’t done any plot preparation. Enter Miss Amazing Cindy Closkey, who makes anything and everything seem possible.
Outline? Who needs an outline? She’s never had one in any of the years she’s done NaNoWriMo. She quickly organized she, Judy Schneider and I into a kick-off group writing session at Panera today. We ate, we brainstormed, we wrote, we met our daily quota: 1,666 words. Hooray!!!!
Only 29 more days of equally productivity output and I’ll have myself a shitty first draft of Farm Girl.

And we’re off! Hooray to you for getting in a full day’s writing. I think we came up with some good plot and character ideas too, so there was more than just the accomplishment of the word count. this will be the best NaNoWriMo ever!
Oh, and I don’t know if I mentioned, but Saturday is NaDruWriNi: National Drunken Writing Night. An excellent way to free yourself of your inhibitions and come up with your first big plot twist…!
